Machu Picchu, Peru

August 13 - 14  [2021]

Machu Picchu lies 50 miles northwest of Cusco in a sub-tropical environment 8500 feet above sea level. Getting there requires three legs of travel including a bus and train down the valley before a two hour vertical hike up the side of a mountain (or bus if you choose convenience). Many are familiar with this ancient Inca city because it's incredibly photogenic and well publicized world wide. But two dimensional images can only provide a single perspective of this incredible 600 year old environment. Simply stated, Machu Picchu needs to felt as much as it can be seen.

While the jury may be out on Machu Picchu's origins and purpose, no one argues the sophisticated levels of construction, engineering and planning involved in the project. The vertical nature of the site alone would typically prohibit any thought of building a monument let alone a livable, self-sustaining city. Even more fascinating are the residential areas underneath the visable ruins. I could go on but words don't pay justice to this world class attraction. If you love to travel and haven't visited Peru, Cusco and especially Machu Picchu, move it up your list. You can thank me later!
